As a Trauma Support Services Coordinator, you will play a crucial role in providing assistance and guidance to families of trauma patients, particularly in discussing sensitive end-of-life decisions, including organ and tissue donation.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Offer compassionate support to families navigating the complexities of trauma care.
  • Engage in discussions regarding organ and tissue donation options, ensuring families are informed and respected.
  • Collaborate with hospitals year-round to facilitate collaborative donation processes, ensuring every potential donor family is presented with the opportunity for donation.
  • Fulfill an on-call schedule, providing coverage across the service area, including weekends and holidays.
  • Respond promptly to new and ongoing referrals from hospitals, advocating for donation while honoring cultural and religious beliefs.
  • Conduct donation discussions via phone when appropriate, providing education to help families understand the diagnosis of death.
  • Assess the readiness of the legal next-of-kin to engage in discussions about donation when no prior designation exists.
  • Maintain a high authorization rate, demonstrating best practices in obtaining consent.
  • Complete all necessary documentation related to the approach and authorization process.
  • Provide initial follow-up support to donor families post-donation.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Administrative Duties:
  • Participate in required meetings and training sessions, unless responding to a case.
  • Check communications regularly to stay updated on developments.
  • Complete assigned training within specified timelines.

Schedule:
The position requires 12 on-call shifts each month, with shifts commencing at 0600 and concluding at varying hours. In certain cases, remaining on-site past midnight may be necessary based on clinical activity.

Travel Requirements:
Frequent travel throughout the service area is expected, with mileage and other reimbursements provided.

Ideal Candidate:
The preferred candidate will reside within the Greater Boston area.
