Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Pathologist Assistant to join our team at Confluence Health. As a key member of our anatomic pathology department, you will play a critical role in examining, dissecting, and processing surgical specimens.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the preparation and performance of surgical specimen examination, including accessioning, obtaining clinical history, and preparing tissues for microscopic examination.
  • Collaborate with pathologists to describe gross anatomic features, dissect surgical specimens, and prepare tissues for microscopic examination.
  • Assist with frozen sections by selecting tissue, freezing, cutting, staining, or other handling techniques in preparation for slide interpretation.
  • Work closely with medical and lab directors to establish and maintain standards that prevent/minimize errors and maintain the highest quality while ensuring efficient turnaround times in the grossing area.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science degree.
  • Completion of a 1-year structured on-the-job training program, which includes assigned education study modules, a pathologist rotation, HistoTech rotation, and competency assessment by Medical Director.
  • Proven and documented skills in performing routine Pathology Assistant functions, including preparation and performance of surgical specimen examination and proficiency in frozen section preparation.
Working Conditions

This position requires frequent walking, sitting, and standing, as well as occasional climbing, pulling/pushing, and lifting. The work environment is fast-paced and requires attention to detail and ability to work in a team setting.
