Ophthalmic Technician I

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Ophthalmic Technician I to join our team at Confluence Health. As an Ophthalmic Technician I, you will play a critical role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our ophthalmologists and optometrists in their daily operations.
Key Responsibilities- Obtain patient medical history and confirm the purpose of visit, following standard work procedures.
- Perform basic vision tests, including tonometry, color vision testing, and stereo vision testing, according to standard work-up by exam type.
- Manage patient workflow for maximum efficiency, ensuring timely and effective care.
- Instill topical ophthalmic ointment/drops under the direction of the physician.
- Obtain vital signs according to protocol.
- Clean and setup rooms between patients, restock room supplies and medications as needed.
- Calibrate, maintain, and clean instruments and equipment per protocol.
- Perform diagnostic eye testing, including visual field testing, optical coherence tomography, and IOL Master Biometry, depending on training.
- Assist with in-office procedures, including injections and lasers, following protocol.
- Educate patients per physician and/or department protocol.
- Perform scribe duties while the physician examines the patient, entering data into the electronic medical record according to standard work.
- Manage Epic in-basket, prescription refill requests, and other practice management duties in a timely manner.
- Instruct patients regarding insertion and removal techniques and care for contact lenses.
- Maintain working knowledge of ophthalmic procedural/diagnostic coding and ophthalmic anatomy and physiology.
- Travel to outreach areas with the provider, with time and mileage reimbursed.
- Skills in organization, time management, and problem-solving.
- Ability to work under pressure amidst ongoing distractions and interruptions.
- Attentive to detail and numerical accuracy.
- Ophthalmology experience.
- Coursework in medical terminology, ophthalmic pharmacology, microbiology, and ophthalmic anatomy and physiology.
