Job Title: Senior Research Scientist - Bacteriology

Emory University is seeking a highly motivated Senior Research Scientist - Bacteriology to join their team in the Department of Pediatrics at the Emory University School of Medicine.

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading research programs and studies in bacteriology, with a focus on investigating the microbial characteristics and genetics of resistance in multidrug-resistant (MDR) gram-negative bacteria.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in microbiology and molecular biology, with experience in laboratory research and supervision. They will be responsible for developing and implementing research protocols, techniques, and procedures, as well as supervising research personnel and participating in project planning.

The Senior Research Scientist - Bacteriology will also be responsible for preparing and monitoring research-related budgets, assisting in the development and submission of grant proposals, and monitoring grant expenditures.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Supervising staff by orienting, training, and providing performance feedback
  • Providing expertise and training in methodology, basic laboratory procedures, and equipment operation
  • Preparing and monitoring research-related budgets
  • Assisting in the development and submission of grant proposals and monitoring grant expenditures
  • Developing models for patents, licensing, and manufacturing agreements with researchers
  • Monitoring and enforcing contracts and monetary returns for products developed through research
  • Performing a wide range of laboratory tests, specimen preparation, and experimental procedures for routine and specialized studies
  • Selecting or developing effective research methodologies
  • Collecting and analyzing results of studies and providing interpretation of results
  • Co-authoring or authoring publications based on laboratory research and findings
  • Recommending new equipment and supply purchases; investigating equipment malfunctions and scheduling maintenance/repair
  • Monitoring quality control of media, reagents, and cleaning procedures and addressing any problems
  • Keeping abreast of safety procedures and monitoring the handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous substances
