Animal Control Specialist

The Animal Control Officer position at Hays County, TX is responsible for enforcing animal control laws and regulations to ensure public safety. This role involves patrolling the county, addressing animal-related issues, and providing education to the public on animal welfare and control.
Key Responsibilities
- Capture and handle diseased and dangerous animals to prevent harm to the public
- Prepare monthly reports on animal control activities and provide information to the public on animal control and regulation
- Teach animal awareness and education programs to citizens and children
- Assist citizens in resolving animal control complaints and issues
- Issue citations as necessary
- Operate power tools safely and efficiently
- Manage workload and prioritize tasks effectively
- Supervise and coordinate with other animal control officers
- Communicate effectively with the public, colleagues, and supervisors
- Load and transport captured animals to local shelters
- Investigate animal cruelty complaints and impound animals as necessary
- Maintain county vehicles and equipment in good working condition
- Transport animals to veterinary offices as needed
- Provide credible testimony in court proceedings
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent required
- Experience working with animals preferred
- Must pass the National Animal Control Association test within one year
- Class C TX Driver's license required
- Must complete On the Job Training program
