Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Animal Care Specialist to join our team at the City of San Angelo Texas animal shelter. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of animals in our care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clean and maintain shelter areas, including feeding, watering, and bathing animals.
  • Provide humane sheltering services, adhering to State minimum standards and shelter policies.
  • Safely handle animals of unknown health and temperament, and contribute to programs that support live outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate records in our shelter database and assist with unloading trucks, stocking shelter areas, and storing materials.
  • Ensure the safety of animals and people in the shelter, and maintain a clean, neat, and organized facility and grounds.
Requirements and Skills
  • Safely handle animals, including those with unknown temperament.
  • Adhere to disease management and safety protocols.
  • Work effectively in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships with City employees and the public.
Minimum Qualifications
  • A High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Some experience working with animals is preferred.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Work is performed in the City animal shelter, with moderate physical demands.
  • Must maintain a level of physical fitness to meet Department standards and be able to lift up to 96 lbs.
