We are seeking a Senior Accountant to enhance our Glendale-based operations. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for preparing journal entries and supervising reconciliations and analyses for the monthly general ledger closure. This role includes assisting in the preparation and distribution of financial statements while ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines and professional standards. The Senior Accountant will also support the Controller during external audits and compliance examinations, manage banking activities, and contribute to special projects as assigned.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting Duties:

  • Execute assigned accounting functions, ensuring the accuracy of all balance sheet GL accounts through monthly analyses. Review Income Statement GL accounts for precision and make necessary adjustments monthly. Provide backup for daily and month-end responsibilities assigned to other accounting personnel.

Reporting & Analysis:

  • Assist in the creation of monthly financial reports along with necessary schedules, worksheets, and narratives, including variance reports. Document and follow up on variances.
  • Support the completion of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including preparation for assigned tax or regulatory filings.

Audit Support:

  • Facilitate the annual external audit by preparing requested materials and assigned schedules for compliance or tax audits.

Systems Management:

  • Participate in testing system reports required for management, financial reporting, and general ledger analyses on a monthly basis. Aid in compiling a summary report of all management reports.

Banking and Cash Management:

  • Assist in establishing new accounts and modifying signers as required. Contribute to investment portfolio reporting for management.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to all regulatory guidance and internal policies and procedures.
  • Document policies, procedures, and workflows for assigned responsibilities.
  • Engage in departmental and special projects as needed.
Qualifications
  • Comprehensive understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Strong analytical and accounting capabilities.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, and Crystal Reports or similar software.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of major accounting software for general ledger and payroll processing; experience with Sage and iSolved is preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Capability to work independently and collaboratively within a team, embracing new challenges.
  • Expected to work with minimal supervision and take ownership of work products.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent from an accredited institution is preferred.
  • A minimum of six years of progressively responsible accounting experience at a senior level, ideally within the property and casualty insurance sector.
