Position Overview

The Senior Underwriter is responsible for overseeing the underwriting and management of both new and renewal accounts for designated Nonprofit agents and producers, ensuring adherence to AmTrust Financial underwriting policies, authority levels, and pricing standards.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a profitable portfolio through thorough risk evaluation, appropriate pricing, and dedicated service.
  • Ensure compliance with state regulations and follow corporate underwriting and pricing protocols.
  • Operate within established authority limits and refer cases to Nonprofit and Home Office Underwriting as necessary.
  • Work closely with the Nonprofit team, keeping colleagues and management updated on relevant issues and activities.
  • In partnership with Nonprofit Management, create and execute a strategic business plan for assigned agents and regions, sharing responsibility for achieving objectives.
  • Guide agents on underwriting guidelines and standards in line with corporate training initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Nonprofit and Regional teams to cultivate and sustain external client relationships, which may involve travel to meet with agents and nonprofit organizations.
  • Actively participate in industry events, including agency and association conventions, as required.
  • Deliver professional, prompt, and courteous communication and service to external clients and cross-departmental teams to effectively resolve inquiries related to policyholders and agents.
  • Provide essential information and support to staff responsible for processing coverage requests in accordance with service standards.
  • Work with the support team on reporting and database updates as needed.
  • Assist in gathering and sharing competitive insights.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in commercial lines property and casualty insurance.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Proven expertise and technical knowledge of the unique risks associated with nonprofit organizations.
  • Strong understanding of underwriting for liability, professional, property, automobile, and umbrella coverage for nonprofits.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret information to make informed risk assessments and pricing decisions.
  • Experience in contributing to Nonprofit business planning.
  • Commitment to confidentiality.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management abilities.
  • A passion for collaborating with a team of dedicated nonprofit insurance professionals.
  • Willingness to travel within the designated territory and to the Home Office as required.
  • CPCU or CIC designation is preferred.
