Job Summary and Qualifications
Pediatric Intensive Care Unit Nurse


Registered Nurses (RNs) are responsible for delivering and coordinating patient care, educating patients and the community about health conditions, and providing emotional support to patients and their families.

RNs exercise independent judgment in delivering a wide range of services.

Under physician direction, RNs administer medications and treatments, assist in procedures, and utilize monitoring systems as necessary.


Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor, document, and report changes in patients' conditions.
- Maintain precise and comprehensive reports and records.
- Record patients' medical data and vital signs.
- Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to assess patients' conditions.
- Adjust treatment plans based on patients' responses and conditions.
- Supervise less-experienced nursing or healthcare staff or oversee specific units.
- Collaborate with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, or evaluate patient care strategies.
- Oversee all aspects of patient care, including dietary and physical activity.


- Educate individuals, families, or groups on health topics, disease prevention, and develop health improvement initiatives.

- Prepare patients for examinations or treatments and provide discharge instructions.

- Set up, monitor, and adjust IV drips, including sedation and vasopressors, and manage invasive monitoring systems.

- Participate in Pediatric Code Blue team responses and assist with procedural sedation.

Qualifications:
- RN licensure from the Tennessee Board of Nursing or a compact state.
- Current BLS certification; PALS and CPI certifications required within six months of hire.
- Minimum of one year of pediatric ICU experience is essential.
