About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Deputy Mission Systems Engineer to join our team at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). As a key member of our Dragonfly mission team, you will play a critical role in the design, development, and operation of this revolutionary mission.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the Mission Systems Engineering Team (MSET) and engineering activities across the project.
  • Perform and lead trade studies that have impact across the mission elements.
  • Support the Project Manager in risk management.
  • Maintain a history of technical requirement and design changes throughout the lifecycle.
  • Lead mission-level technical meetings and systems engineering team meetings.
  • Capture and report required metrics, such as action item status, document status and delivery, technical performance, etc.
  • Organize major project technical reviews.
  • Interact and provide technical information as needed to the NASA Standing Review Board and Technical Authority.
  • Develop formal communications through systems engineering documents, reports, proposals, and oral presentations.
Requirements
  • Hold a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field.
  • Have at least 10 years of systems engineering experience with the NASA mission or spacecraft development process.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership of large engineering teams delivering flight hardware.
  • Have excellent communication skills.
  • Have in-depth knowledge of the APL Quality Management System processes and procedures.
  • Be able to obtain a Secret clearance.
Desired Qualifications
  • Hold a Master's Degree or Ph.D. in Engineering or related field.
