ORGANIZATION: Creighton University School of Medicine is seeking a distinguished physician leader to take on the role of Chair for the Department of Internal Medicine. We are looking for a dynamic and collaborative medical professional with extensive administrative expertise and a deep commitment to education, research, and community service. The ideal candidate will excel in fostering relationships with faculty and community stakeholders.

The Department Chair will be responsible for the overall performance of the Department of Internal Medicine, focusing on enhancing the quality of clinical services, educational initiatives, and scholarly activities. This leader will work closely with organizational leadership to strategically guide the Department's growth and the development of healthcare services, alongside the execution of educational programs.

The Department encompasses a diverse team of 78 physicians and 16 advanced practitioners, actively participating in the academic framework throughout the metropolitan area. The Department includes 8 specialized Divisions: Cardiology, Critical Care Medicine, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, General Internal Medicine, Hospitalist, Infectious Disease, and Palliative/Pain, with Division leaders reporting directly to the Chair.

COLLABORATIVE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS:

In partnership with Creighton University School of Medicine, this role supports various medical education programs, including:

  • Internal Medicine Residency Program with 96 residents
  • Gastroenterology Fellowship with 6 fellows
  • Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship with 12 fellows
  • Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship with 2 fellows
  • Student rotations, including M3 clerkship and M4 electives

Additionally, in collaboration with Dignity Health East Valley hospitals, this position will support the Internal Medicine Residency Program, anticipating 39 residents, along with student rotations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as a senior physician leader within the organization.
  • Promote a collaborative practice model to enhance the overall success of the medical group.
  • Develop and implement quality metrics, financial incentives, and strategic growth plans.
  • Collaborate with academic leaders to create educational programs for faculty and learners.
  • Mentor physicians and advanced practice providers, conducting regular evaluations and providing constructive feedback.
  • Maintain clinical practice, demonstrating evidence-based medicine and exceptional patient care.
  • Act as a servant leader, supporting the professional development of department members.
  • Engage in scholarly activities, fostering publications to advance academic practices.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

REPORTING STRUCTURE:

This position reports directly to the Chief Medical Officer for medical group activities and to the Regional Dean for academic matters.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MD Degree with Active Board Certification or Board Eligibility.
  • Possession of Arizona State medical licensure.
  • Completion of ACGME Residency training.
  • Demonstrated physician leadership experience.
  • Clinical responsibilities within the last 5 years.
  • Ability to secure full hospital privileges.
  • A team-oriented physician dedicated to quality care and community service.
  • Eligibility for an academic appointment with Creighton University School of Medicine.
