Job Summary

The College of Lake County seeks a highly skilled and dedicated Alternative Learning Tutor to join our Tutoring Center team. As an active participant in our center, you will tutor students in executive functioning and other skills as needed, while also supporting fellow tutors across disciplines by developing, implementing, and assessing alternative learning strategies to enhance the learning and success of students with alternative learning needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Tutor CLC students in executive functioning and/or other skills as needed.
  • Coach tutors across the disciplines in alternative learning strategies, helping them apply those strategies in sessions with students.
  • Assist with staff training related to working with students with disabilities, including developing and facilitating training sessions.
  • Tutor in multiple modalities (face-to-face and online).
  • Recommend appropriate learning strategies in basic skills.
  • Present class orientations describing center services.
  • Lead study groups as needed.
  • Refer students to support services when appropriate.
  • Document tutoring sessions and complete other required reporting.
  • Participate in staff development opportunities and in the tutor evaluation process.
  • Participate in center projects as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in special education or related field.
  • Experience working with students with disabilities.
  • Ability to tutor in multiple modalities (face-to-face and online).
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively with students of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
  • Ability to assess student learning needs and determine appropriate learning strategies.
  • Proficiency in arithmetic and basic algebra.

Desired Qualifications

  • Previous Tutoring Center experience.
  • Proficient in MS Office.
  • Willingness to work at multiple campus locations (Lakeshore, Southlake, Grayslake).
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.
