Summary:

The Tutor III (Writing) is an active participant in the CLC Tutoring Center, coaching students in academic writing across the curriculum as well as in study and technology skills as needed. The Tutor III (Writing) participates in staff development opportunities, contributes to center projects, and helps promote the center within the CLC community.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Bachelors degree or higher in English or related field.
  2. Ability to tutor in multiple modalities (face-to-face and online)
  3. Ability to communicate and interact effectively with students of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
  4. Ability to assess student literacy needs and determine appropriate learning strategies.
  5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  6. Training in an accepted tutor training course (ENG 260 or equivalent), or agreement to take Eng. 260, Writing Center Theory and Practice, in the upcoming semester.

Summary of Essential Functions:

  1. Tutor CLC students in writing across the curriculum in multiple modalities (face to face and online)
  2. Tutor students in study skills and technology (Word, Google, Canvas) as needed.
  3. Facilitate study groups as needed
  4. Serve as a tutoring center liaison to specific course sections
  5. Conduct outreach directly to students
  6. Staff events such as study nights, convocations, resource fairs, open houses, workshops and other promotional events
  7. Mentor less experienced tutors
  8. Assist coordinator or lead tutor in conducting tutoring center orientations
  9. Assist students in scheduling new appointments or making changes to scheduled appointments
  10. Greet and assist students as they enter the center when office assistant is not available
  11. Participate in training, including attending monthly tutoring center training sessions and developing subject specific skills through reviewing asynchronous CLC courses or completing other training recommended by coordinator/manager
  12. Contribute to special projects such as the development of handouts and workshops as approved by the department manager
