Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee royalty revenue accounting, ensuring precise calculations and classifications on the Income Statement, and reconciling related Assets and Liabilities on the Balance Sheet to fulfill contractual revenue share commitments with clients.
  • Supervise the Royalty Staff Accountant, managing the review and analysis of licensees' royalty reports for completeness, accuracy, and adherence to license agreement stipulations, alongside the proper application of related cash receipts and expense accounting.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of license agreements, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations throughout all business interactions with assigned licensees.
  • Manage the tracking of licensee guarantee and overage payments, oversee overdue invoices, and maintain communication with licensees regarding royalty obligations.
  • Foster professional relationships with a diverse range of licensees across various product categories, effectively communicating corporate initiatives and strategies as necessary.
  • Generate and assess quarterly and annual royalty revenue reports for clients, providing insightful trend analysis.
  • Collaborate with clients and colleagues on revenue forecasts and monthly/quarterly closing processes.
  • Assist in training and managing licensees through the reporting process in a dynamic, high-volume environment, sharing best practices for administration.
  • Evaluate proposed licensing agreements to support client recommendations.
  • Oversee the licensee audit program.
  • Identify and recommend improvements to enhance business processes and efficiencies across the organization.
  • Provide additional Corporate Accounting support as required.
  • Customer Service & Collaboration:
    • Ensure a positive customer experience through all interactions with licensees and clients, delivering a tailored approach to a diverse licensee base.
    • Promptly research and respond to all inquiries and requests from licensees and colleagues with accuracy and professionalism.
    • Enhance the efficiency and ease with which licensees conduct business with the company.
    • Effectively communicate complex royalty accounting issues, errors, or improvement opportunities to clients, licensees, and colleagues.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance is required.
  • 4-7 years of accounting experience, ideally with exposure to royalty accounting (in sectors such as music, consumer products, publishing, etc.), including at least 3 years in a managerial role.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and proficiency in contract interpretation.
  • A self-motivated individual capable of managing multiple tasks and maintaining organization.
  • A leader who can exercise professional judgment to prioritize team workload and effectively communicate with corporate accounting and business management teams.
  • Strong analytical skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel (including Pivot Tables, VLookups, and other formulas).
  • Familiarity with analytical tools such as DOMO, Tableau, Power BI, MicroStrategy, etc., is preferred.
  • Demonstrates ethical behavior, strong business acumen, common sense, and sound judgment.
  • Confident and capable of instilling confidence in business counterparts both within and outside the organization.
