About the Role

The DC Chamber of Commerce is seeking a visionary leader to serve as its President & CEO. This is a unique opportunity to drive the Chamber's strategic direction, promote business interests in the District, and enhance the value provided to members.

Key Responsibilities
  • Advocacy & Public Policy: Represent the Chamber and its members before local government bodies, collaborating with other organizations to advance pro-business policies and shape the city's economic landscape.
  • Membership Growth & Engagement: Develop strategies to recruit, engage, and retain members by providing relevant programs, services, and value-added opportunities.
  • Board Relations: Act as a trusted partner to the Board of Directors, maintaining open communication and guiding strategic decision-making.
  • Community Leadership: Serve as a community leader, fostering relationships with government entities and local businesses.
  • Revenue Generation & Fundraising: Identify and secure new sources of revenue, including non-dues funding.
  • Staff Leadership: Attract, develop, and retain a high-performing team.
  • Financial & Operational Management: Oversee the Chamber's financial health, ensuring a balanced budget and the efficient allocation of resources.
  • Public Representation: Act as the public face of the Chamber, articulating the organization's goals and achievements.
About the Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be a proven leader with extensive experience in advocacy, public policy, and organizational management. Key qualities and qualifications include:

  • Leadership Experience: At least 10 years of senior leadership experience in a nonprofit or for-profit organization of similar size and scope.
  • Advocacy & Public Policy: Demonstrated success in advancing an agenda and working with government entities.
  • Revenue Generation: A successful track record in fundraising and developing new revenue streams.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Community Leadership: Strong relationship-building skills.
  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to craft and execute strategic plans.
  • Financial Acumen: Proficiency in managing budgets and ensuring fiscal responsibility.
  • Staff Development: A collaborative leader who can attract, develop, and inspire a diverse team.
  • Visionary Leadership: A forward-thinking leader who can steer the Chamber through changing economic landscapes.
