Cytotechnologist - Per Diem

We are seeking a highly skilled Cytotechnologist to join our team at Stony Brook Medicine. As a Cytotechnologist, you will play a critical role in providing clinical services to our patient population and interacting with nursing staff, physicians, and other members of the hospital community.
Key Responsibilities- Examine Gynecologic, Non-Gynecologic, and Fine Needle Aspirations (FNA) cytology specimens to determine if a specimen is benign and/or malignant.
- Present abnormal findings to the Pathologist and render a final diagnosis.
- Screen cytology specimens to determine whether cellular changes meet guidelines for referral to the Pathologist.
- Obtain patient history relevant to the final cytologic diagnosis.
- Schedule and attend FNA procedures to determine specimen adequacy.
- Process specimens for microscopic evaluation when needed.
- Participate in Quality Control and Quality Assurance.
- Participate in Proficiency Testing and Continuing Education.
- Formal training from an accredited school of Cytotechnology.
- Pass the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) registry exam (CT, ASCP).
- Registered Cytotechnologist with NYSED and NYSED license in Cytotechnology.
- Baccalaureate Degree.
- A minimum of two to five years of experience in Cytotechnology.

This function/position may be designated as "essential," which means that when the Hospital is faced with an institutional emergency, employees in such positions may be required to remain at their work location or to report to work to protect, recover, and continue operations at Stony Brook Medicine, Stony Brook University Hospital, and related facilities.
Successful completion of pre-employment physical examination and medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine's Employee Health Services is required prior to start date.
Electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references is also required.
