Job Summary

Stony Brook Medicine is seeking a highly skilled Clinical Laboratory Technologist/Cytotechnologist to join our team. As a valued member of our laboratory team, you will play a critical role in providing clinical services to our patient population.

Key Responsibilities
  • Examine Gynecologic, Non-Gynecologic, and Fine Needle Aspiration cytology specimens to determine if a specimen is benign and/or malignant.
  • Present abnormal findings to the Pathologist and render a final diagnosis.
  • Screen cytology specimens to determine whether cellular changes meet guidelines for referral to the Pathologist.
  • Obtain patient history relevant to the final cytologic diagnosis.
  • Schedule and attend FNA's to determine specimen adequacy.
  • Process specimens for microscopic evaluation when needed.
  • Participate in Quality Control and Quality Assurance.
  • Participate in Proficiency Testing and Continuing Education.
Requirements
  • Formal training from an accredited school of Cytotechnology.
  • Pass the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) registry exam (CT, ASCP).
  • Registered Cytotechnologist with NYSED and NYSED license in Cytotechnology.
  • Baccalaureate Degree.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A minimum of two to five years of experience in Cytotechnology.

Prior to start date, the selected candidate must meet the following requirements:

  • Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine's Employee Health Services.
  • Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.
  • Successfully complete a 4-panel drug screen.
  • Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre-employment screenings.
  • Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).

Failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.
