Job Summary

This is a challenging and rewarding role as a Protective Force Officer (PFO) at The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). As a PFO, you will be the most visible contributor to detecting, deterring, and denying threats and hazards in support of a safe and supportive work environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patrol NREL premises regularly to maintain safety and establish a supportive presence.
  • Enforce NREL policies and procedures, Department of Energy Orders, and maintain training and qualifications required for duty.
  • Monitor and authorize entrance of vehicles or people into NREL facilities, as well as deter, detect and deny unauthorized personnel access to NREL facilities.
  • Ensure facilities are secure utilizing key and equipment control (locks, doors, windows, controlled access areas, etc).
  • Utilize C-Cure Monitoring Station for door alarms and Ocularis surveillance cameras and computer programs to identify alarms, disruptions, and unlawful acts.
  • Respond to alarms and emergencies by investigating and assessing the situation, then providing appropriate support and solutions to each situation.
  • Submit reports of incidents, observations, shift reports, and daily activities.
  • Perform as a member of a team, with diversity, inclusivity and respect at the forefront.
  • Provide support and assistance in a professional manner to NREL Community, guests and visitors, as well as outside federal and state response agencies.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 1 or more years of experience or equivalent related security education/experience.
  • Intermediate skills in applicable software packages and office equipment (Microsoft Office products: Outlook, Word, SharePoint, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Basic project administration skills with the ability to prioritize work.
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent team and interpersonal skills preferred.
  • Ability to monitor CCTV and electronic surveillance systems.
  • Excellent judgment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
Additional Requirements
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an HSPD-12 Public Trust credential for a position as required by Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12, which includes a favorable background investigation.
  • Eligibility requirements: This position will require access to sensitive information, Government facilities, and/or Government information systems restricted to individuals with US citizenship.
