This role is integral to the operations of the YMCA of Greater San Antonio, a prominent nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing community well-being through youth engagement, health initiatives, and social responsibility. The sanitation specialist is responsible for the thorough cleaning and sanitization of designated areas, performing tasks such as mopping, dusting, and waste disposal. Additional responsibilities may include window cleaning, event setup, pool maintenance, snow removal, landscaping, and other related tasks.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Maintains the YMCA's aesthetic appeal and cleanliness by completing all tasks outlined in the daily schedule and ensuring the upkeep of assigned areas and equipment. Duties may include wet and dry mopping, floor buffing, dusting, waste removal, recycling, window cleaning, pool maintenance, painting, vacuuming, and general sanitation.
2. Operates various motorized and non-motorized cleaning equipment.
3. Logs and reports all necessary repairs; performs repairs as instructed.
4. Ensures the security of YMCA facilities during shifts and reports any incidents or hazardous conditions to supervisors.
5. Restocks soap, paper towels, and other essential supplies.
6. May arrange furniture for events.
7. Performs other duties as assigned.
LEADERSHIP COMPETENCIES:

1. A minimum of six months of relevant experience is preferred.
2. Ability to read and comprehend instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents.
3. Capability to report and document maintenance requests.
4. Familiarity with cleaning techniques and equipment.
5. Basic knowledge of equipment maintenance and care.
6. Understanding of cleaning agents and chemicals, including their safe and effective use.
7. Required certifications within the first week of employment: Foundations for Preventing Abuse in Youth Organizations.
8. Required certifications within the first 60 days of employment: YMCA-approved basic life-saving skills such as CPR, First Aid, and AED.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
1. Sufficient physical strength and agility to perform essential duties.
2. Ability to climb and work on ladders and platforms at heights up to 30 feet.
3. Capability to handle paint, cleaning supplies, chemical agents, solvents, and solutions in various forms.
4. Ability to perform maintenance tasks involving physical activities such as reaching, crouching, kneeling, shoveling, carrying, and working in confined spaces.
5. Ability to work in environments that may produce dirt and dust.
6. Ability to execute essential maintenance tasks that may include a variety of physical movements.
