Role Summary: The Senior Educator for the Science Leadership Initiative is tasked with the design and execution of professional development programs tailored for K-12 STEAM educators. This position plays a pivotal role in enhancing leadership capabilities aimed at comprehensive school-wide science advancement.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Craft and deliver leadership training sessions for K-12 science educators aligned with the strategic goals of the Professional Learning department.
  • Design, execute, and enhance professional development initiatives for educators and administrators focusing on holistic school improvement in science and STEAM.
  • Provide coaching and mentorship to program participants, ensuring effective application of learned concepts within their respective school environments.
  • Assist in the creation of fee-based programs and contractual services in collaboration with educational institutions.
  • Foster and manage a continuous professional learning community for current and alumni program participants.
  • Engage in research to assess the impact and effectiveness of educational programs.
  • Contribute to the advancement of science and STEM education while enhancing the visibility of the Museum's initiatives.
  • Stay informed on best practices in teacher education, STEAM pedagogy, change management, and K-12 educational leadership.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's degree in science or education, with 5-7 years of relevant experience; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • Experience in K-12 classroom teaching, particularly in implementing Next Generation Science Standards.
  • Proven experience in leading professional development for educators and administrators, along with coaching or mentoring roles.
  • Familiarity with diverse stakeholder groups in public education settings is preferred.
  • Expertise in democratic dialogue and leadership development is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines with initiative and independence.
  • Exceptional communication skills across various formats, with experience engaging diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite applications.
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative and professional team atmosphere, showcasing creativity, enthusiasm, and adaptability.
  • A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are required, along with the capacity to travel for school site visits.
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings for sessions and events.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish is a plus.
  • Language Skills: Ability to comprehend and interpret instructional documents and manuals.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform calculations involving percentages and other figures.
  • Reasoning Skills: Ability to address practical problems and interpret various forms of instructions.
  • Physical Requirements: Regularly required to use hands, talk, and hear; frequently required to stand, walk, and reach; occasionally required to sit, climb, or balance; must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Work Environment: Occasionally exposed to humid conditions; noise levels are typically moderate.
