Role Summary: The Senior Educator for the Science Leadership Initiative plays a pivotal role in crafting and executing professional development programs tailored for K-12 STEAM educators. This position is integral to enhancing leadership capabilities that drive comprehensive improvements in science education across schools.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and facilitate leadership training sessions for K-12 science educators, aligning with the strategic goals of the Professional Learning department.
- Develop, implement, and enhance professional development initiatives focused on advancing whole-school science education and supporting STEAM initiatives.
- Provide coaching and mentorship to participants, ensuring the effective application of learned concepts within their school environments.
- Assist in the creation of fee-based educational programs and collaborative services with educational institutions.
- Foster a vibrant professional learning community for current and former program participants.
- Engage in research to assess the impact and effectiveness of educational programs.
- Contribute to the advancement of science and STEM education, enhancing the visibility of the Museum's initiatives.
- Stay informed about best practices in teacher education, STEAM education, and school leadership.
- Perform additional duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as science or education, with 5-7 years of pertinent experience; a Master's degree is preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in K-12 classroom teaching, particularly in implementing Next Generation Science Standards.
- Proven track record in leading professional development for educators and providing coaching or mentorship.
- Experience collaborating with diverse stakeholder groups within public education settings is preferred.
- Expertise in leadership development and fostering democratic dialogue is advantageous.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines independently.
- Exceptional communication skills, capable of engaging with a variety of audiences.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite applications.
- Ability to thrive in a collaborative and professional team environment, demonstrating creativity and flexibility.
- A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are necessary for travel to various educational sites.
- Willingness to work occasional evenings for professional development sessions and events.
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish is a plus.
Work Environment:
- Occasional exposure to humid conditions.
- Typical noise levels in the work environment are moderate.
