Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Laboratory Scientist to join our team at Guidehouse. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for providing technical expertise in histopathology and supporting the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Department of Laboratory Medicine (DLM).

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and validate new staining procedures to support histopathology services
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for laboratory operations
  • Perform inventory management and procurement to ensure laboratory supplies and equipment are available
  • Maintain compliance with regulatory requirements, including CAP, CLIA, and Joint Commission
  • Provide histological preparations for pathologists to discern the nature and extent of disease in bone marrow specimens
  • Operate and troubleshoot microtomes and other laboratory equipment
  • Perform specimen processing and test performance of moderate to high complex tests
  • Maintain records of quality control activities and instrument calibrations
  • Accession tissue samples and review associated documentation
  • Label forms and specimen containers with assigned Soft Path numbers
  • Process all specimens while controlling physical conditions and responding to time factors
  • Communicate and consult with medical personnel regarding collection procedures
  • Register specimens in the accessioning log book and interact with residents and pathologists
  • Use tissue embedding centers to embed human tissue sections
  • Conduct daily changing and maintenance of staining solutions and running appropriate controls
  • Perform or direct special stain techniques on tissue and cytological material
  • Identify cellular and non-cellular constituents of histological specimens
  • Operate, program, and troubleshoot automatic strainers
  • Play a critical role in performing and adhering to Quality Control, Quality Assurance, and Quality Improvement (QC/QA/QI) policies and procedures
Requirements
  • Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) or Medical Technologist (MT) certification through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or similar organization
  • Minimum of three (3) years of related experience required
  • Ability to pass a cutting test is required
  • Compliance with all applicable federal and state government regulations regarding infectious disease control
  • Work may include weekends, holidays, and on-call duty
Preferred Qualifications
  • Histotechnician (HT) certification desirable
  • Bachelors Degree
  • Experience in histology and immunohistochemistry is preferred
  • Experience in working with the following equipment: Ventana BenchMark Ultra and Venata Nexes Special Stainer is preferred
  • Knowledge of dual staining, ISH is preferred
  • Experience cutting bone marrow biopsies is preferred
