Key Responsibilities

The Medical Assistant will be responsible for:

  • Supporting the Provider as needed.
  • Escorting patients to examination rooms.
  • Accurately obtaining vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, respiration, temperature, weight, and height, tailored to the patient's primary complaint, prior to the clinician's assessment.
  • Documenting precise information in the patient's electronic medical record, including all actions performed by the Medical Assistant.
  • Possibly conducting spirometry tests, six-minute walk tests, and administering injections/medications as directed by the Provider.
  • Securing prior authorizations for medications.
  • Facilitating patient education by providing informational materials and aftercare instructions as instructed by the Provider.
  • Ensuring that examination rooms are clean, stocked, and properly prepared each day before patient appointments.
  • Maintaining sterile techniques at all times when necessary.
  • Managing incoming documents and processing them according to established protocols.
  • Verifying that all relevant information is available in the chart prior to the patient's visit (e.g., labs, x-rays).
  • Ensuring all documents are correctly labeled and categorized within the electronic medical record.
  • Communicating with patients through secure patient portals and assisting with any access issues.
  • Maintaining medical equipment and supplies.
  • Possibly traveling to other clinic locations as required.
Additional Duties

Other responsibilities include:

  • Handling patient inquiries and scheduling appointments.
  • Assisting with incoming phone calls to the clinic.
  • Adhering to clinic protocols for managing patient and pharmacy callbacks promptly.
  • Collecting necessary documents and signatures to assist the Provider in treatment decisions.
  • Conveying Provider instructions/orders to pharmacies, patients, and other relevant parties via phone, fax, or mail.
  • Labeling and uploading test results into the patient's electronic medical record.
  • Following clinic protocols for managing referrals.
  • Collaborating effectively with colleagues to ensure efficient Provider schedules and timely patient care.
  • Securing medication cabinets at the end of each workday.
  • Participating in clinic meetings.
Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Two or more years of relevant work experience preferred.
  • Certification as a Medical Assistant (RMA, CCMA, CMA) is advantageous.
  • Current certification in CPR / Basic Life Support (BLS) is mandatory.
  • Proficient computer skills; experience with electronic medical records is preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology.
  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to build effective working relationships with colleagues, patients, and the public.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Capability to organize and maintain patient records and correspondence.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds.
  • A valid driver's license and automobile insurance are required, with the ability to travel to various clinics.
