Job Summary

Lonza is a global leader in life sciences operating across three continents. We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Scientist to join our R&D Department. The successful candidate will lead research, development, and transfer of drug delivery innovations within Lonza. This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires a deep understanding of engineering fundamentals and the ability to design and conduct experiments, analyze data, and clearly communicate results in a multidisciplinary team environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leverage and apply deep and broad scientific expertise to solve multifaceted emerging problems across technology and product lines.
  • Design of model-based laboratory studies to support development of new technologies and innovation.
  • Serve as technical subject matter expert in various areas as required across the organization.
  • Internal- and external-facing opinion leader that helps drive organizational level strategies.
  • Collaboratively define strategy for new capabilities aimed at addressing unmet technical needs.
  • Identify and drive action on internal and external technical opportunities to advance strategic organizational goals.
  • Initiate and deliver innovative solutions that lead to enhanced intellectual property resulting in patents, trade secrets, or publications.
  • Perform intellectual property searches and summaries with overviews of scientific and patent literature.
  • Communicate scientific advancements within and outside of the organization through presentations to clients or at conferences and by writing papers for internal or external publication.
  • Act as a technical and professional mentor for less experienced colleagues.
Requirements
  • Requires a BS or MS in Chemistry or related field and 15+ years of related experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Ph.D. with 10+ years' experience in the pharmaceutical industry will also be considered.
  • Effective communication skills are required due to the multidisciplinary team structures.
