Job Summary

The City of Wentzville is actively seeking qualified candidates to join our Public Works team. As one of the rapidly expanding municipalities in the region, we invite you to be part of our growth journey.

The Senior Civil Engineer will be responsible for overseeing all new development initiatives within the city, ensuring that public improvements adhere to the established city standards. This role also involves addressing engineering and infrastructure-related inquiries from residents and businesses, as well as supervising all internal traffic operations studies, which include stop sign warrant analyses, speed assessments, traffic impact evaluations, and traffic signal timing analyses. The position requires a high degree of independent judgment and initiative in project management. Experience in modeling, designing, constructing, or operating drinking water and/or wastewater systems is preferred.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Consideration of additional experience in lieu of a degree may be applied.
  • A minimum of four years of experience in Civil Engineering, Public Works, Construction, or a comparable environment is essential.
  • Advanced degrees or certifications may be considered in lieu of experience.
  • A valid driver's license is mandatory.
  • Professional Engineer License must be obtained within 12 months of employment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Comprehensive understanding of public infrastructure, including the construction and maintenance of streets, storm sewers, sanitary sewers, and water distribution systems.
  • Knowledge of hydraulics, hydrology, water quality, wastewater treatment, and water resource management.
  • Proficiency in basic business software (word processing, spreadsheets, email, presentations), AutoCAD Civil 3D, and ArcGIS software, along with a basic understanding of office equipment.
  • Ability to manage large-scale projects, programs, and processes effectively.
  • Professional credibility with the capacity to influence decisions or outcomes beyond one's department.
  • Competence in conducting complex analyses, interpreting data, and recommending solutions to organizational issues.
  • Capability to assist in resolving complex problems while considering multiple variables.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight as well as collaboratively within a team setting.
  • An adaptable learner with effective time management, task prioritization, and goal achievement skills.
  • Exceptional service orientation towards both internal and external customers.
  • Ability to oversee and monitor division operations and implement procedural changes to enhance workflow and productivity.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with supervisors, colleagues, and customers.
  • Sound judgment and rational thinking in challenging or stressful situations.
