Position Overview:
As a vital member of the Engineering team, the Automation Controls Engineer will oversee all aspects of plant equipment control engineering and enhancement initiatives, ensuring optimal operational support for the facility.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Formulate and execute strategies for modifications to plant layout and production workflows.
  • Adjust programming for PLCs (primarily Allen Bradley), HMIs, robotics, vision inspection systems, electric torque tools, and other automation technologies as necessary, often while leading the Maintenance team.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues related to processes and hardware.
  • Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot challenges and implement effective solutions.
  • Provide technical support as required.
  • Design and oversee all facets of electrical control systems for plant machinery.
  • Manage the installation and technical support of PLC-based hardware and software.
  • Analyze plant operations, design, and implement enhancements.
  • Uphold quality and safety standards.
  • Devise strategies for alterations to plant layout and production methodologies.
  • Design and/or specify work fixtures and modify them as needed for production.
  • Research and procure tools and equipment as necessary.
  • Oversee projects, including the installation and modification of tools and equipment by contractors and internal Maintenance teams.
  • Evaluate ergonomic concerns and implement solutions.
  • Manage facility upgrades and improvements.
  • Instruct maintenance personnel on modifications or repairs to production equipment.
  • Supervise Skilled Trades for projects and to cover Supervisor absences.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and safety standards.
  • Adhere to safety protocols, reporting hazards and unsafe conditions, and taking all reasonable measures to protect oneself and others.
  • Utilize personal protective equipment as mandated by the company.
  • Perform additional duties as required in alignment with the responsibilities of this position.
Qualifications:
  • Post-Secondary Education or equivalent experience.
  • High School diploma is mandatory.
  • Degree/Diploma in a relevant Engineering/Automation field.
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience in a Controls Engineering role within the Manufacturing and/or Automotive sector.
  • Familiarity with JIT (just in time) manufacturing principles.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial automation and safety regulations.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing methodologies.
  • Proficient in ladder logic, preferably with Allen-Bradley Systems; PLC5, SLC, and ControLogix.
  • Strong skills in HMI Design, preferably with FactoryTalk View, Ignition, WonderWare, or LabVIEW.
