Job Summary

The Cement Mason is a skilled professional responsible for preparing the job site to receive concrete by arranging forms, spreading, leveling, and smoothing the material. This role requires a strong understanding of concrete characteristics and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Mix, compact, spread, finish, and cure concrete for buildings, roads, tunnels, bridges, and other structures.
  • Set forms to the desired pitch and depth, and align them to ensure proper construction.
  • Check forms to ensure they are properly constructed and make adjustments as needed.
  • Cut out damaged areas, drill holes for reinforcing rods, and position rods to repair concrete.
  • Mix gravel, water, sand, and cement to create concrete, and use a concrete pump to move the mixture into position.
  • Physically move the mixture and materials, and create various textures on the surface using hand-held tools.
  • Mix and apply color pigments as required, and direct the casting of concrete mixture and supervise laborers.
  • Use level, transit, and laser to ensure accurate measurements and placement.
  • Apply muriatic acid to clean surfaces and rinse with water.
Requirements
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have a minimum of 3 years previous work experience as a cement mason.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of concrete characteristics.
  • Must be able to determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job.
  • High school diploma or GED desired.
  • Must have a positive attitude and work ethic.
  • Must have the ability to focus on safety of self and co-workers at all times.
  • COVID-19 vaccination is highly recommended.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a background and drug screening.
Working Conditions

This role may require working extended hours, including evenings, nights, and weekends. The job requires the ability to lift, pull, and push a minimum of 50 lbs, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, squat, and twist. The job also requires standing for extended periods and performing essential job tasks in less than favorable job conditions.
