Job Description

The Anesthesia Technician, also known as Medical Equipment Specialist, plays a vital role in supporting the anesthesiologist and other anesthesiology personnel. Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing and maintaining equipment used by anesthesiologists, including sterilizing, cleaning, assembling, calibrating, testing, and troubleshooting various pieces of machinery.
  • Monitoring equipment while patients are under anesthesia.
  • Assisting with difficult airway management by providing equipment needs to providers.
  • Delivering blood samples to the lab and retrieving blood products.
  • Disassembling, decontaminating, and sterilizing anesthesia equipment and supplies.
  • Reporting equipment problems to the management team and stocking items in the workroom.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • One year of experience working in a healthcare setting or completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or similar training.

Physical Requirements

This role requires extended periods of walking, standing, lifting, and carrying equipment weighing up to 20 pounds. You must also be capable of pushing and maneuvering equipment up to 150 pounds.
