ROLE SUMMARY

The Gourmet Cheese Service Associate plays a vital role in delivering exceptional customer service while supporting the operations of the Gourmet Cheese Department.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deliver outstanding customer service by promptly addressing inquiries and fulfilling customer needs.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of the products offered, including various cheeses, olives, and accompaniments.
  • Articulate the unique flavor profiles of cheeses to customers, including suggestions for pairings and serving ideas.
  • Process orders with precision and attention to detail.
  • Collaborate with the Gourmet Cheese Manager and Assistant Manager regarding special orders and production needs.
  • Assist in the packaging, pricing, and presentation of department products.
  • Ensure display cases are clean, well-stocked, and accurately labeled.
  • Maintain a safe and organized storage area and back-of-house cooler.
  • Handle deliveries as necessary.
  • Organize and restock supplies in the workstation and department.
  • Keep work areas, utensils, and equipment clean and sanitized.
  • Operate necessary equipment, such as scales and vacuum sealers.
  • Respond to phone inquiries and pages in a courteous manner.
  • Adhere to established procedures, including health and safety regulations.
  • Report any safety hazards or violations to supervisors immediately.
  • Complete assigned opening, mid, and closing tasks.
  • Attend all scheduled shifts and required training sessions.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Basic knowledge of cheese types and characteristics preferred.
  • Ability to follow instructions and established procedures with great attention to detail.
  • Capable of prioritizing tasks effectively in a dynamic environment.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Team-oriented with the ability to work independently.
  • Basic math skills are necessary.
  • Conversational English proficiency is required; bilingual skills are a plus.

EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Food Handlers Certificate from a recognized organization.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Exposure to various food allergens, including dairy and nuts.
  • Regularly lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Engage in constant standing and walking throughout the workday.
  • Perform motions such as bending, twisting, and reaching.
  • Use hands for grasping and fine manipulation.
  • Occasional exposure to extreme temperatures in different areas of the store.
  • Work in both wet and dry conditions.
  • May require the use of ladders or step stools.
  • Handle cleaning chemicals in compliance with safety standards.
  • Operate various tools and equipment safely.
  • Work in an environment with intermittent noise from machinery.
  • Wear appropriate non-slip footwear.
