Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Associate Director to lead our Veteran's Upward Bound Office at Suffolk University. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in providing support to qualified military veterans in developing the necessary skills to enroll and succeed in post-secondary education.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and implementation of services to veterans, supervising two full-time staff members and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the program.
  • Oversee the project's academic and enrichment programming, including academic services, career development services, and advising students through their transition from military service to college.
  • Assist with the development of recruitment plans and establish program policies, including recruiting, attending veterans' related events, and bringing awareness.
  • Serve as program representative, oversee the selection of eligible program participants, and ensure the adequacy of participant experiences.
  • Develop working relationships with key offices at the University and at other institutions of higher education to advocate for participants.
  • Coordinate services for program participants, participate in veteran services networks, and strengthen relationships with area service providers to support participant referrals.
  • Ensure the effectiveness of the program by ensuring that program goals and objectives are met, including data management and reporting.
  • Responsible for budget management and grant reporting, complying with local and federal budgetary guidelines.
Requirements
  • Master's degree required.
  • Master's in Counseling, Adult Education, Secondary Counseling, Social Work, or a combination of a master's and relevant experience in a related field is preferred.
  • Direct experience and/or knowledge of financial aid, college admissions, student assessment, and curriculum development.
  • Three years of successful professional experience with a demonstrated commitment to working with adult learners and veterans from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, presentation, and organizational skills.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Experience facilitating workshops and trainings.
  • Strong computer proficiency.
  • Experience working with social service agencies and serving clients with psychiatric problems, or drug and alcohol abuse problems.
  • Experience working effectively with diverse populations.
  • Flexibility to participate and/or attend program or veterans-related events in the evening or weekends on occasion.
  • Military or experience working in veterans' services is preferred.
