We are seeking a highly skilled Federal Legislative Affairs Director - Energy Policy Specialist to join our team at Duke Energy. This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the energy industry and contribute to the company's mission to make a difference in people's lives.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Establish and Maintain Relationships
  • Develop and maintain strong, effective working relationships with federal regulatory agencies, including the Department of Energy, US Army Corps of Engineers, and Department of Interior.
  • Communicate and advocate the company's positions to federal regulatory agencies.
Coordinate Regulatory Policies
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders to develop, plan, and implement regulatory policies, positions, and strategies that are favorable to our customers and company.
  • Assist in the development and prioritization of business plans and policy strategies in light of current and anticipated federal regulatory developments.
Monitor and Disseminate Regulatory Information
  • Remain well-informed of significant federal regulatory trends and developments affecting the company.
  • Monitor federal regulatory proceedings, meetings, issuances, and filings to identify policy issues that could affect Duke Energy's regulated and commercial businesses.
Enhance Industry Visibility
  • Maintain good relations with industry trade associations and coalitions to ensure that Duke Energy's interests are sufficiently supported and represented.
  • Ensure the policies and positions of Duke Energy are effectively communicated directly and through trade associations and industry coalitions to federal regulators and policymakers.
Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in political science, public policy, economics, business, finance, or other applicable field.
  • 10 years of directly-related work experience with at least five (5) years of experience working for a Congressional member, committee, or the administration.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in public policy or economics, MBA, or Juris Doctorate.
  • 10+ years of federal energy regulatory and/or policymaking experience.
  • Significant experience with FERC, DOE, and other federal regulatory agency staff, processes, and policies.
  • Demonstrated ability to work/collaborate in cross-functional team settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex topics to business, governmental, and general audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute advocacy plans (in or out of government).
