Job Title: Vice President, Federal Government Affairs

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Vice President, Federal Government Affairs to lead our strategic federal legislative advocacy efforts. The successful candidate will represent our industry positions with policymakers in Congress, establish industry advocacy and engagement strategies, and maintain strong relationships with policymakers, key stakeholders, and related stakeholder groups.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and analyze legislation impacting our industry, drafting legislative analysis, position papers, and advocacy materials.
  • Advocate industry positions to Congress and stakeholders, developing and executing advocacy strategies on legislation and policy issues.
  • Lead the Federal Government Affairs Committee, comprised of member company representatives, and manage member company engagement to develop industry positions and participation.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Congressional offices and related federal agencies, leading federal coalition development and stakeholder engagement.
  • Arrange and facilitate meetings between the association, its members, and Congress on issues of importance, directing federal political giving and federal PAC.
  • Help plan and execute annual industry fly-in and Hill industry educational events, including developing policy positions, securing speakers, and overall strategy for engagement.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in public policy or a related field and 10+ years of federal lobbying and advocacy experience for a trade association, with experience lobbying for consumer products strongly desired.
  • Excellent relationship-building, problem-solving, and negotiating skills, with the ability to interpret policy analysis and research.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to create effective presentations and key messages and accomplishments to members.
  • Thorough understanding of Congress and sound judgment, with strong interpersonal skills to create and nurture important relationships on Capitol Hill and with federal agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under tight deadlines and produce high-quality work, with a track record of diplomacy when interacting with volunteers, colleagues, partner societies, global federal staff, and Congressional offices.
  • Strong multitasking skills to manage projects in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment, with keen attention to detail, execution, deadlines, and efficiency.
  • Flexibility for up to 30% travel, with the ability to reside in the Washington, DC area and work in the office two days each week.
