Psychology Technician

This position is located within the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), VA Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6), Salem Veterans Affairs Healthcare System (SVAHCS), under the Mental Health Service Line (MHSL). The incumbent will be aligned under MHSL programs and is located at the Salem VAMC campus.
Responsibilities- Conduct outreach efforts, collect information, and provide assessment and triage to veterans newly referred to psychology services.
- Discuss best disposition options with multidisciplinary team members and coordinate implementation of treatment recommendations.
- Complete psychiatric and physical diagnostic questionnaires.
- Maintain clinical records and documentation, ensuring regulatory compliance and compliance with Good Clinical Practices.
- Implement the Behavioral Health Laboratory (BHL), working under the guidance of the supervisor or designee.
- Organize and assist in the scheduling of patient appointments as needed.
- Provide psychoeducation to Veterans using standardized individual and group protocols.
- Provide care management services to Veterans, including coordination with multi-disciplinary team members involved in the patient's care.
- Support the Licensed Independent Provider's (LIP) interventions through methods such as telephone-based support services.
- Encourage attention to health-focused behaviors and treatment adherence.
- Complete clinical reminders on patients.
- Oversee daily activities of the assigned clinic and facilitate the flow of care.
- Develop a working knowledge of various treatment modalities delivered by the clinical staff.
- Conduct follow-up interviews and ongoing monitoring of patients' symptomatology utilizing structured assessment instruments.
- Manage and coordinate referrals to specialty behavioral health services, including MH and Substance Abuse (SA) services.
- Conduct follow-up with patients referred to other clinics or services to motivate attendance to the appointment or aid in stabilization and management of that patient before their appointment.
- Assist with the preparation of workshop and group activities.
- Assure availability of patient education and other materials.
- Assist patients in meeting basic needs such as food, shelter, clothing, benefits.
- Maintain up-to-date contact information about commonly used community resources.
Monday-Friday, 7:45am-4:30pm
Requirements- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Must be able to pass a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- Must be registered with the Selective Service System.
- Must be able to serve a probationary period.
- Must be able to pass a background/security investigation.
- Must be able to participate in the seasonal influenza vaccination program.
- Must be able to participate in the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination program.
