Position Overview
The Compensation and Benefits Specialist is responsible for the daily management, promotion, and assessment of the benefit programs at Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Center (CCOC) for active, terminated, and retired staff members.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborates with the Benefits Manager to ensure adherence to all regulations affecting benefits, hospital policies, and the stipulations of Benefit Plan Documents/Certificates. Provides assistance by developing, executing, interpreting, and disseminating benefit policies and procedures throughout the organization and with external vendors/brokers.
Manages all facets of two Workers' Compensation Policies, which includes reviewing the Employee First Report of Injury, analyzing and monitoring claims handled by the Third Party Administrator (TPA), attending mediation/hearings on behalf of Crystal Clinic, and liaising with legal counsel.
Supervises employee injury reporting, ensuring thorough investigations are conducted and aids leadership in implementing measures to enhance safety. Acts as a member of the Emergency Management (Safety) Committee.
Oversees absence and disability management, ensuring compliance with FMLA and Crystal Clinic's Leave of Absence Policies. Communicates effectively with employees and keeps leadership informed about the status of leaves. Ensures that the HRIS is updated accurately and invoices employees for any missed benefit premiums. Manages the Transitional Work Program (TWP) and coordinates return-to-work arrangements with restrictions.
Identifies when ADA Accommodations may be necessary and oversees the process through determination.
Evaluates eligibility for and processes all midyear benefit modifications due to qualifying events, changes in employment status, and/or Medical Support Orders.
Maintains employee records and dependent eligibility within HRIS and with vendors. Manages, reconciles, and addresses inquiries regarding all benefit, 401(k), and wellness plans/programs. Assists with Open Enrollment and monthly vendor invoicing as required.
Must uphold confidentiality regarding patient, physician/employee, and financial information.
Possesses a strong understanding of business mathematics. Demonstrates effective time management, prioritization, and deadline adherence. Capable of preparing written communications, generating ad hoc reports, and compiling enrollment censuses, as well as merging and comparing multiple spreadsheets in Excel. Must be accountable, detail-oriented, analytical, and an independent thinker with exceptional problem-solving abilities.
Keeps the Benefits Manager apprised of significant issues.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
Position Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma or GED required. An Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Business, Human Resource Administration, Accounting, or a closely related field is preferred.
Experience: A minimum of four to seven (4-7) years of experience in benefits administration is preferred. Prior experience in Workers Compensation is required.
Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word, with advanced skills in Excel required. Experience with an HRIS is essential. Familiarity with UKG Ready is a plus.
