PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The role of the Manufacturing Engineer is both demanding and vital. This position requires a high level of energy, multitasking capabilities, and outstanding communication skills across various business functions. The Manufacturing Engineer will undertake the following responsibilities:

  • Enhance and refine manufacturing processes by aligning products with suitable manufacturing techniques, assembly, and testing methods, as well as identifying appropriate suppliers.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of customer requirements, including technical specifications, timelines, costs, and necessary documentation.
  • Serve as an internal consultant to the product design engineering team and engage in product development reviews with engineering, program teams, and clients.
  • Support Design To Cost (DTC) initiatives and Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) efforts.
  • Act as a liaison among the Assembly and Test (A&T) team, suppliers, procurement, and engineering to address cost reduction, manufacturing challenges, and lead time optimization.
  • Review and approve detailed design drawings for manufacturability, demonstrating proficiency in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and drawing verification.

SPECIFIC TASKS

  • Assess manufacturing and assembly processes by leveraging knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and implement enhancements with A&T operators.
  • Develop and optimize assembly and testing methods in partnership with Product Design Engineers, Quality Assurance, and A&T personnel.
  • Boost manufacturing efficiency through analysis and planning of workflow, spatial requirements, and equipment layout.
  • Ensure product and process quality by designing and validating testing equipment and methodologies, assessing finished product and process capabilities, establishing standards, and validating manufacturing processes.
  • Provide critical manufacturing decision-making information regarding detailed drawings, production, labor, and material costs; review production schedules; and estimate future needs.
  • Create and validate A&T routers and work instructions.
  • Comply with all government regulations, industry standards, and specific customer requirements.
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration across Program Management, Design and Manufacturing Engineering, A&T, Quality, and Operations.
  • Contribute to facility growth, modifications, and expansions.
  • Adopt a collaborative, team-oriented approach.
  • Implement and train staff on lean principles.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent experience (10+ years) in relevant duties.
  • Proven leadership abilities through participation in and management of multifaceted teams.
  • Understanding of key functions in purchasing, planning, inventory, and operations.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and organizational capabilities.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to convey information clearly.
  • Ability to present technical information to individuals and small cross-functional teams.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes suitable for a low-volume, high-mix environment.
  • Experience managing complex customer hardware specifications, manufacturing methods, quality assurance, and supplier evaluation.
  • Strong background in applying Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ANSI Y14.5M.
  • Proficiency in using basic inspection equipment.
  • U.S. Citizenship required; dual citizenship is not permitted.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and a solid understanding of multi-level Bill of Materials (BOM).
  • Familiarity with AS9100 requirements is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of aerospace traceable configuration management techniques and hardware control requirements is a plus.
  • Experience with SolidWorks is beneficial.
  • Understanding of certification and qualification testing per DO-160 and/or MIL-STD-810 is a plus.
  • Experience in small to mid-sized companies operating in a high-mix, low-volume market is advantageous.
