Position Overview

As the Oncology Pharmacy Operations Manager, you will oversee the delivery of clinical pharmacy services, ensuring the promotion of evidence-based medication management and optimal pharmaceutical care. This role involves the development and enhancement of pharmacy practice initiatives, drug therapy protocols, and various programs aimed at improving patient outcomes. You will act as a key clinical pharmacy resource within the health system and its associated pharmacy services. Additionally, you will mentor pharmacy residents and students from affiliated educational institutions, while engaging in research and scholarly activities with the aim of contributing to the field through publication.

Key Responsibilities

1. **Clinical and Administrative Leadership**:

- Execute and participate in departmental initiatives to align with the strategic goals and policies of the organization, adhering to standards set by regulatory bodies.

- Formulate and enforce policies and procedures that enhance medication safety and meet professional standards, including those established by relevant pharmacy organizations.

- Support the Pharmacy & Therapeutics committee by preparing drug evaluations and assisting in formulary management.

- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to assess and optimize drug therapy regimens, ensuring the safe and effective use of medications.

- Participate in patient care rounds, providing clinical recommendations and following up with healthcare providers, patients, and caregivers.

- Conduct comprehensive medication reviews and patient counseling to enhance therapeutic outcomes and minimize adverse effects.

2. **Continuous Professional Development**:

- Stay informed on pharmaceutical databases and national guidelines to ensure evidence-based medication management.

- Educate patients and their families about medications, including their purpose, administration, and potential side effects.

3. **Staff Development and Training**:

- Identify educational needs of pharmacy staff and healthcare professionals, providing training on medication appropriateness, safety, and cost-effectiveness.

- Serve as a mentor for pharmacy residents and students, facilitating their professional growth.

4. **Supervisory Responsibilities**:

- Oversee pharmacy personnel, conducting performance evaluations and implementing corrective actions as necessary.

- Participate in pharmacy management meetings and provide after-hours support for the department.

Qualifications

**Education**:
- Doctor of Pharmacy Degree required.
- Completion of an ASHP-Accredited PGY-1 residency is required; PGY-2 residency is preferred.
- Board Certification (e.g., BCPS, BCCCP) is highly encouraged.

**Experience**:
- Minimum of three years of hospital pharmacy experience or equivalent clinical training.

**Licensing**:
- Must hold a valid Registered Pharmacist license issued by the appropriate regulatory agency.
- Commitment to ongoing education and licensure requirements throughout employment.
