Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY: This role involves applying accounting principles to evaluate financial data and generate comprehensive financial reports.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: A Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field in Business Management is preferred. An Associate Degree in accounting or a related business discipline with relevant experience may also be considered.

EXPERIENCE: A minimum of three (3) years of accounting experience within a multi-million-dollar corporation or not-for-profit organization is required, with expertise in the following areas:

  • Preparation and reporting of budgets using automated accounting systems.
  • Financial statement preparation and analysis.
  • Reconciliation of fixed assets.
  • Intercompany allocations.
  • Grant reporting and compliance.
  • Preparation of audit schedules.
  • Conducting internal and external audits.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES: The following skills are essential for success in this position:

  1. Ability to verify the accuracy of information from accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and general ledger, and resolve issues as needed.
  2. Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare detailed reports and proposals.
  3. Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills and the capability to work independently.
  4. Proficient in managing multiple projects and adhering to deadlines.
  5. Good computer skills, including proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and email software.

RESIDENCY AND TRANSPORTATION REQUIREMENTS: A valid driver's license and an insured automobile are necessary as per state regulations.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS: No specific licenses or certifications are required.


FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Execute monthly and annual general ledger closings, ensuring accurate financial representation.
  2. Generate reports to support budgeting, allocate costs to programs, and assist in billing grantors according to established methodologies.
  3. Oversee contract compliance and prepare necessary reports for grantors.
  4. Document transactions to maintain a clear audit trail.
  5. Monitor program activities, clarify accounting practices with program managers, and prepare reports for program directors.
  6. Prepare monthly invoices for program-related expenses.
  7. Maintain records and generate reports concerning fixed assets.
  8. Analyze and reconcile general ledger accounts, making adjustments as needed.
  9. Prepare audit schedules, board reports, financial statements, tax documents, and federal grant reports.
  10. Collaborate with the Controller and CFO to provide accounting support.
  11. Perform additional duties as assigned.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Assist Managing Directors with grant proposals and budgeting processes.
  2. Support the Controller in fulfilling responsibilities.
