Job Summary

SSM Health is seeking a skilled Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) to join our team. As an EMT, you will be responsible for providing emergency medical services to patients in need.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist Paramedic Partner: Work alongside a paramedic to provide medical interventions and general patient care.
  • Transport Patients: Safely transport patients to receiving departments or facilities as needed.
  • Operate Ambulance: Safely operate an ambulance and EMS radios during non-emergency and emergency situations.
  • Maintain Ambulance: Clean and maintain the ambulance's interior and exterior regularly.
  • Collect and Document Data: Collect and document patient data, including vital signs, for reassessment at specific times.
  • Perform 12 Lead EKG: Demonstrate knowledge of appropriate lead placement for routine cardiac monitoring and perform 12 lead EKG on patients according to policy and procedures.
  • Stock and Maintain Supplies: Stock and maintain supplies and equipment in keeping with patient care needs and cost containment.
  • Assist with Clerical Duties: Assist with delegated clerical duties, such as answering telephones.
  • Assist with Medical Procedures: May assist physician and nursing staff with medical procedures.
  • Work in a Constant State of Alertness: Work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
Requirements
  • Education: High School diploma/GED or 10 years of work experience.
  • Experience: No experience required.
Physical Requirements
  • Operate a Vehicle: The ability to operate a vehicle for multiple hours per day.
  • Constant Use of Speech: Constant use of speech to share information through oral communication.
  • Constant Standing and Walking: Constant standing and walking.
  • Frequent Lifting/Carrying: Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
  • Frequent Sitting, Reaching, and Keyboard Use: Frequent sitting, reaching, and keyboard use/data entry.
  • Frequent Use of Vision and Depth Perception: Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Frequent Use of Smell: Frequent use of smell to detect/recognize odors.
  • Frequent Use of Hearing: Frequent use of hearing to receive oral communication, distinguish body sounds and/or hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.
  • Occasional Lifting/Carrying: Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
  • Occasional Lifting/Moving of Patients: Occasional lifting/moving of patients.
  • Occasional Bending, Stooping, Kneeling, Squatting, Twisting, Gripping, and Repetitive Foot/Leg and Hand/Arm Movements: Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, gripping, and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
  • Rare Crawling and Running: Rare crawling and running.
Required Professional License and/or Certifications
  • Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP): American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Driver's License: State of Work Location
