Position Summary:

  • The Lab Educator for the Pre-Analytical Operations division is tasked with instructing Laboratory Assistants and Scientists in all aspects of sample handling. This role involves offering feedback to Supervisors regarding the progress and performance of trainees and may include conducting process and compliance evaluations as necessary. The Educator is responsible for onboarding new hires and providing ongoing training to existing staff, ensuring they acquire essential skills for career advancement. Strong training, presentation, facilitation, and communication skills are essential for success in this position. The ability to utilize both internal and external resources to create effective training materials is required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Capable of performing the duties of Lab Assistant II.
  • Oversee and facilitate training for all newly hired Pre-Analytical Operations personnel, as well as continuous education for current employees.
  • Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the department.
  • Ensure new hires have all necessary resources during their training period.
  • Design programs and curricula for in-job training for staff.
  • Revise training programs in accordance with current procedures and following the proper approval process.
  • Create and update job aids as required for staff.
  • Collaborate with management to assess training needs and schedule appropriate training sessions.
  • Communicate with management to identify training requirements and timelines for employees.
  • Report to management on personnel status, procedures, workloads, etc., in a timely manner, and notify them of any current or potential issues related to service quality, processes, or compliance.
  • Identify areas for improvement and devise plans and solutions.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of training and implement modifications as necessary.
  • Establish systems to monitor and ensure staff are fulfilling their responsibilities according to training.
  • Provide support and mentorship for new employees while assessing and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Address issues that arise during training and communicate effectively with management regarding problems and solutions.
  • Collaborate with the QA and Safety Supervisor; participate in Committee meetings to implement necessary changes.
  • Lead and/or assist in the ongoing development of quality management initiatives for the laboratory.
  • Evaluate and support lean projects within the laboratory aimed at enhancing overall processes to ensure quality care is delivered efficiently and effectively to patients.
  • Travel may be required.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor of Science preferred or equivalent experience in training (minimum of 2 years).
  • Skills:
    • Strong attention to detail.
    • Excellent organizational abilities.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding all medical, financial, and legal information.
    • Capacity to work independently and complete assignments accurately and promptly.
    • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
    • Aptitude for multitasking.
    • Problem-solving skills using sound reasoning and judgment.
    • Creative mindset with effective communication capabilities.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years in a training role.
  • Basic understanding of laboratory procedures and protocols.
