Job Overview:

The Clinical Automation Engineer will play a pivotal role in transitioning assays and workflows from manual setups to automated liquid handling systems and integrated platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and program intricate processes on liquid handling systems, managing all phases from requirement analysis to hands-on implementation and testing.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to define requirements and work with vendors to design and configure systems that fulfill those specifications.
  • Engage with cross-functional teams (scientists, managers, IT, facilities) to successfully establish large-scale systems and their associated infrastructure.
  • Provide mentorship and technical support to new users.
  • Oversee multiple systems within core laboratory environments: establish best practices, monitor system performance proactively, and address errors and urgent requests promptly.
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts, conduct root cause analysis, and resolve complex automation challenges.
  • Work diligently to minimize equipment downtime in the laboratory.
  • Continuously evaluate operational states and prioritize enhancements based on anticipated improvements.
  • Implement systematic approaches to automation solutions to ensure scalability, sustainability, and reliability of processes.
  • Design and develop new automated and efficient laboratory processes aimed at achieving hands-free test processing.
  • Conduct audits across various systems for quality assurance (automated equipment, incident tracking, and documentation).

Qualifications:

Education:
  • BS/MS in a scientific or engineering discipline.
Skills:
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with adaptability to changing environments.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and extensive hands-on experience with various liquid handling systems (e.g., Hamilton Vantage, Tecan EVO, Agilent Bravo, or similar platforms).
  • Proficiency in major programming languages (e.g., C#.NET, Python).
  • Completion of Venus Software Basic and Advanced Training.
  • Training in Venus Liquid Handling.
  • Experience with Venus over Vantage method development (preferred but not mandatory).
  • Familiarity with Hamilton Liquid Verification (LVK) (preferred but not mandatory).
Experience:
  • Prior experience in assay development, liquid handling performance qualification, biological assay optimization, and inter/intra-assay performance validation.
  • Expertise in protocol development and operation of integrated systems and automation scheduling software applications.
  • Developed documentation for process development, including IQOQPQ, Study Test Plans, Change Management, Method Requirements, Method Specifications, and Design Input Requirements.
  • Collaborated with service engineers on instrument diagnostics and repairs.
  • Experience in standard life-science application areas: microbiology, molecular biology, and high-throughput diagnostic testing.
