Position: Building Engineer

Overview:

EMCOR Government Services is seeking a qualified Building Engineer to oversee the mechanical systems at a significant facility. The Building Engineer is tasked with monitoring essential mechanical operations through advanced monitoring systems. This role involves responding to fire alarm incidents and collaborating with local emergency services upon their arrival. Strong communication skills and a thorough understanding of various mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical, are crucial for success in this position.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Act as the representative for EMCOR during facility emergencies until relieved by designated personnel. Communicate the status of emergencies to the Chief Engineer and coordinate with the Facilities Management Department.
  • Utilize the Building Automation System (BAS) to monitor mechanical systems, documenting any unusual occurrences in the shift log.
  • Perform all tasks safely and professionally, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Install, service, and maintain environmental control systems, applying knowledge of refrigeration, pipefitting, and structural layouts.
  • Conduct maintenance and repairs on pressure vessels, refrigeration, air conditioning machinery, and air handling equipment.
  • Start systems, monitor operations, and adjust controls to maintain optimal system performance.
  • Review system blueprints and specifications to understand component configurations and verify compliance.
  • Prepare systems for operation by opening valves and starting equipment.
  • Discuss system issues with users to identify and resolve problems.
  • Record operational readings and manage refrigerant recovery and maintenance equipment.
  • Assemble components using various techniques, including welding and brazing.
  • Install electrical wiring and troubleshoot malfunctioning systems.
  • Replace or adjust worn parts to ensure system functionality.
  • Install air ducts and measure airflow requirements.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on HVAC equipment, including boilers and cooling towers.
  • Maintain accurate records related to job responsibilities.
  • Monitor fire alarm systems and respond to alarms and drills.
  • Participate in the Preventative Maintenance program and maintain a daily log of activities.
  • Complete safety training and maintain compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Be prepared to work extended hours or weekends as necessary.
Qualifications:
  • Possession of a Washington DC 3rd Class Stationary Engineer License is required.
  • A valid driver's license is necessary.
  • Completion of OSHA 10 General Safety and Health training is required.
Physical Requirements:

The physical demands of this position require regular walking, handling of materials, climbing, and the ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds. Vision requirements include close, distance, and peripheral vision.

Work Environment:

This role may involve exposure to various environmental conditions, including humidity, mechanical parts, and potential hazards. The noise level is typically moderate.
