Estimator/Planner Job Description

AWP Safety is seeking a skilled Estimator/Planner to join our team. As an Estimator/Planner, you will play a critical role in building quality relationships with business partners to secure profitable projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Review and clarify proposals to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Negotiate projects with clients to secure profitable business
  • Complete estimates, including bid documents, to determine project scope and evaluate special conditions
  • Collaborate with the Operations Department to ensure quote accuracy and prospect for business opportunities
  • Build estimates for clients through direct requests from customers, CSR's, planners, or anyone involved in daily operations
  • Produce estimates, track, and manage them in SharePoint, TCR, and/or estimating spreadsheet
  • Track estimates with clients to determine close ratio of completed estimates
  • Ensure estimates comply with local, state, and federal MUTCD requirements and allowed set-up approvals
  • Knowledge and understanding of permitting processes and costs
  • Continual process improvement, tracking, production, and billing of estimates to support sales efforts
  • Collaborate with management on strategic estimating and growth initiatives for the estimating department
  • Analyze available information to compile into proposal estimate
  • Attend external pre-bid meetings to determine scope of work
  • Determine key variables for cost, labor, equipment, and other estimates
  • Complete estimates, including bid documents, to determine project scope, deration, phasing, and evaluate special conditions affecting the proposal
  • Review and clarify proposals and negotiate projects
  • Prepare estimates based on time, labor requirements, equipment costs, and specifications
  • Create and submit estimate reports or bids to appropriate people
  • Obtain and track offers and quotes from subcontractors or vendors
  • Prepare preliminary schedules for all successfully awarded projects
  • Manage multiple projects estimates simultaneously
  • Develop relationships with current and potential customers and estimating staffs in a sales capacity
  • Involved in peer engagement, mentoring, and on-the-job training
  • Verify customer quote and work with Operations Team to ensure customer is provided with a quote
  • Gain technical knowledge required for all aspects of traffic control and AWP Safety products to present to client
  • Compliance with all aspects of traffic control as governed by standards of local, state, and federal agencies
  • Track estimates in external systems to manage close ratios and margin profiles
  • Create plan in Rapid plan and submit traffic control plans
  • Help support traffic control plans
  • Attend regular customer lunches to build and maintain relationship
  • Follow AWP Safety policies and procedures
  • Exceed KPI's and follow estimating SOP
  • Perform other functions as necessary or as assigned
Qualifications:
  • The employee must be able to successfully handle the physical demands of this position, which include the following:
  • Hours of operation are typically 8 a.m.- 5 p.m., M-F
  • 40+ hour work week based on need
  • Primarily sedentary or working at a desk
  • Occasionally lift and move pounds
  • Proficient literacy
  • The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, or reach with hands and arms

Compensation:

$65-85K + AIP 10% bonus

The base pay offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.

A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
