Role Overview

The Cost Estimator and Project Planner at Area Wide Protective will cultivate strong relationships to secure profitable partnerships that enhance our business operations. Key responsibilities include:

  • Evaluating and clarifying project proposals and engaging in negotiations.
  • Preparing detailed estimates, including bid documentation, and defining project scopes.
  • Collaborating with the Operations Department to ensure the precision of quotes and identifying new business opportunities.
  • Generating estimates based on direct requests from clients, planners, and operational staff.
  • Managing and tracking estimates using SharePoint and other estimating tools.
  • Monitoring the success rate of estimates and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Understanding permitting processes and associated costs.
  • Driving continuous improvement in estimating processes to support sales initiatives.
  • Analyzing data to compile comprehensive proposal estimates.
  • Attending pre-bid meetings to assess project scopes.
  • Identifying key factors influencing costs, labor, and equipment needs.
  • Completing estimates that encompass project duration, phasing, and site-specific conditions.
  • Reviewing proposals and negotiating terms effectively.
  • Preparing estimates based on labor, equipment costs, and project specifications.
  • Submitting estimate reports to relevant stakeholders.
  • Gathering and tracking quotes from subcontractors and vendors.
  • Developing preliminary schedules for awarded projects.
  • Managing multiple estimates concurrently.
  • Building relationships with clients and estimating teams to enhance sales efforts.
  • Participating in mentoring and training initiatives.
  • Verifying customer quotes and collaborating with the Operations Team for accuracy.
  • Gaining technical knowledge related to traffic control and Area Wide Protective's offerings.
  • Ensuring adherence to traffic control standards set by governing agencies.
  • Tracking estimates in external systems to manage performance metrics.
  • Assisting in the creation and submission of traffic control plans.
  • Attending client meetings to strengthen relationships.
  • Upholding company policies and procedures.
  • Striving to exceed performance indicators and follow estimating protocols.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Candidates must be capable of meeting the physical demands of this role, which include:

  • Standard working hours are typically Monday through Friday.
  • A commitment to a 40+ hour work week as needed.
  • Primarily desk-based work with occasional physical activity.
  • Ability to lift and move objects as required.
  • Strong literacy skills.
  • Frequent standing, walking, or reaching may be necessary.
