Position Summary:
The Sustainability and Safety Compliance Officer will lead the environmental, health, and safety initiatives at the POET bioprocessing facility. This role collaborates with local leadership and EH&S teams to foster a culture that prioritizes environmental stewardship and safety.
The Officer serves as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies and is the local authority on environmental compliance and safety matters.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement and manage POET's environmental and safety management systems, including conducting audits, inspections, and incident investigations.
- Generate and analyze safety and environmental reports on a daily, weekly, monthly, and annual basis.
- Lead training sessions and maintain critical records and documentation for the Environmental Health and Safety Program.
- Monitor contractor safety performance on projects in collaboration with Design & Construction partners.
- Champion a culture of safety and environmental responsibility at the facility.
- Act as the local expert on environmental compliance, including understanding permits, hazardous waste management, and regulatory requirements.
- Facilitate safety committee meetings and lead safety and environmental training for team members and contractors.
- Stay updated on new safety regulations and ensure that written EHS programs are current and effectively communicated.
- Maintain accurate records for various environmental, health, and safety programs.
Qualifications:
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required; advanced safety certifications are preferred.
- Experience in environmental health and safety roles is advantageous.
- Strong leadership skills with a proven track record of driving cultural improvements in EH&S.
- Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn new software.
Work Environment:
At POET, our culture emphasizes teamwork and open communication. This position requires adherence to all safety protocols and involves working in various environments, including plant, laboratory, and office settings. Team members may encounter high noise levels, moving mechanical parts, and exposure to chemicals.
Physical requirements may include lifting up to sixty (60) pounds, climbing stairs and ladders, and standing for extended periods. Candidates will undergo a physical examination and drug screening as part of the hiring process.
