Job Overview

We are seeking a Senior Spacecraft Power Systems Engineer to join our team at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). The ideal candidate will have experience in the development of electrochemical batteries for space flight applications.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the development of electrochemical batteries for multiple space flight programs. This includes developing battery requirements based on spacecraft system needs, performing battery electrical design, and collaborating with packaging, structural, thermal, and other engineers to design batteries meeting challenging requirements. Additionally, the candidate will prepare specifications, statements of work, drawings, parts lists, test plans, procedures, test reports, and review packages, as well as perform modeling, simulation, and worst-case analysis to verify end-of-life performance, and present at design reviews.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop battery requirements based on spacecraft system needs.
  • Perform battery electrical design including power interfaces, telemetry signals, thermal control, and fault protection.
  • Collaborate with packaging, structural, thermal, and other engineers to design batteries meeting challenging requirements.
  • Prepare specifications, statements of work, drawings, parts lists, test plans, procedures, test reports, and review packages.
  • Perform modeling, simulation, and worst-case analysis to verify end-of-life performance, and present at design reviews.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field, with five or more years of experience with battery development and test. They should also have experience with electrical design, analysis, and simulation, as well as managing/leading a product development team, and experience in battery packaging design and thermal management.

Salary Information
$90,000 - $330,000 annually.
