Lead Wireless Systems Engineer

Job Title
We are seeking a Lead Wireless Systems Engineer to join our team at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL).
- This position requires designing, implementing, and analyzing prototype link adaptation algorithms for future resilient and secure communications networks operating in highly contested environments.
- The selected candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams to develop and integrate communications systems, considering factors like space, weight, power, and propagation environment.
- Regular progress updates, analysis results, and algorithms will be presented in written reports and presentations to management, government agencies, and contractors.
- Additionally, the successful candidate will assist in developing strategic plans for growth efforts in the technical area and business development opportunities.
The Lead Wireless Systems Engineer will be responsible for:
- Designing, implementing, and analyzing prototype link adaptation algorithms for future resilient and secure communications networks.
- Working with cross-functional teams to develop and integrate communications systems.
- Developing and maintaining technical documentation, presenting findings to management, and collaborating with senior leadership.
- Staying current with emerging technologies and advances in wireless communications systems and waveforms.
- Developing and delivering training programs to educate colleagues on new technologies and methodologies.
- A Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Communications Engineering, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in communications system design.
- Extensive experience in wireless communications systems and waveforms.
- Experience in FPGA development.
- Knowledge of RF (Radio Frequency) design principles.
- Theoretical and practical knowledge of physical, link, and network layers of communication systems.
- Experience in digital design, digital signal processing, and communications systems.
- Experience in aspects of embedded systems design and specification, embedded software development, and design verification/test.
- Experience in MATLAB, Python, or C/C++ for algorithm development, modeling, and simulation.
- Effective communication of ideas and results.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Active Secret security clearance and ability to obtain TS/SCI security clearance.
$140,000 - $170,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience.
