Job Title

We are seeking a Lead Wireless Systems Engineer to join our team at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL).

  • This position requires designing, implementing, and analyzing prototype link adaptation algorithms for future resilient and secure communications networks operating in highly contested environments.
  • The selected candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams to develop and integrate communications systems, considering factors like space, weight, power, and propagation environment.
  • Regular progress updates, analysis results, and algorithms will be presented in written reports and presentations to management, government agencies, and contractors.
  • Additionally, the successful candidate will assist in developing strategic plans for growth efforts in the technical area and business development opportunities.
Key Responsibilities

The Lead Wireless Systems Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Designing, implementing, and analyzing prototype link adaptation algorithms for future resilient and secure communications networks.
  • Working with cross-functional teams to develop and integrate communications systems.
  • Developing and maintaining technical documentation, presenting findings to management, and collaborating with senior leadership.
  • Staying current with emerging technologies and advances in wireless communications systems and waveforms.
  • Developing and delivering training programs to educate colleagues on new technologies and methodologies.
Qualifications
  • A Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Communications Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in communications system design.
  • Extensive experience in wireless communications systems and waveforms.
  • Experience in FPGA development.
  • Knowledge of RF (Radio Frequency) design principles.
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of physical, link, and network layers of communication systems.
  • Experience in digital design, digital signal processing, and communications systems.
  • Experience in aspects of embedded systems design and specification, embedded software development, and design verification/test.
  • Experience in MATLAB, Python, or C/C++ for algorithm development, modeling, and simulation.
  • Effective communication of ideas and results.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Active Secret security clearance and ability to obtain TS/SCI security clearance.
Estimated Salary Range

$140,000 - $170,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience.
