Position Overview:

The Surgical Patient Care Technician embodies the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Memorial Healthcare, ensuring adherence to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, while complying with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory standards.

Shift Details:
8-hour shifts with varying start times, Monday through Friday, with no on-call duties required.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in delivering fundamental nursing care activities as directed and overseen by a Registered Nurse (RN), which includes monitoring vital signs, conducting blood glucose tests, and documenting patient intake and output.
  • Promptly report any abnormal findings or changes in patients' physical, mental, or emotional conditions to the nursing staff.
  • Support the maintenance of a clean and organized patient environment.
  • Exhibit adaptability, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively, especially in high-pressure situations.
  • Employ critical thinking abilities to prioritize and complete unit tasks efficiently, adapting to the dynamic needs of the unit, patients, and staff.
  • Act as a communication link between patient care units and other departments involved in patient care.
  • Respond to phone calls, intercoms, and call lights courteously, utilizing appropriate telephone etiquette and relaying information to the relevant staff, family members, or patients.
  • Collaborate with the charge RN and/or assistant manager to manage overall unit workflow as necessary.
