Role Overview:

The Long-Term Care Nurse Surveyor is a Registered Nurse tasked with performing on-site evaluations in various healthcare facilities to assess compliance with federal certification and state licensure standards, as well as reviewing and evaluating the quality of care, quality of life, environment, and services provided to all residents. This position is field-based, and the ideal candidate will reside in designated counties.

Salary Statement:

The starting salary for this position is typically $67,314.00, although it may vary based on education and work experience.

A Day in the Life:

The primary responsibilities of this role include:

  • Conducting on-site evaluations using federal and state protocols to identify deficiencies and assess the level of non-compliance in healthcare service provision. Communicating observations and findings to ensure adherence to survey protocols and maintain survey integrity.
  • Performing on-site investigations of complaints within required timeframes, adhering to federal and state protocols.
  • Maintaining confidentiality regarding complainants and subjects of complaints, as well as the scheduling of complaint surveys.
  • Documenting a written summary of investigations for each allegation.
  • Organizing and submitting survey documentation in accordance with division policies.
  • Preparing for and providing testimony in legal proceedings.
  • Assisting in staff training as needed.

What You'll Need for Success:

To be considered for this position, you must meet the following qualifications:

  • Active Licensed Registered Nurse status in the State of Indiana.
  • Preferred one year of experience as a Registered Nurse in an Acute or Long-Term Care environment.
  • Specialized knowledge of nursing practice principles and care standards.
  • Familiarity with state licensure and federal certification requirements.
  • Understanding of survey and investigative procedures, with the ability to conduct surveys, inspections, interviews, observations, and investigations.
  • Capability to identify potential adverse health and safety conditions.
  • Proficiency in utilizing computer systems and software for data entry, retrieval, and manipulation.
  • Willingness to work outside of standard hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Professional demeanor and ability to maintain composure in stressful situations.
  • Commitment to the public health mission of safeguarding the health, safety, rights, privacy, and well-being of residents in long-term care facilities.

To maintain employment, you must also fulfill the following requirement:

  • Successfully complete all federally mandated training and testing within the first year of employment.
