Project Accountant Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Project Accountant to join our team at Grubb Properties. As a Project Accountant, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the financial success of our development projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Invoice and Draw Management:
    1. Review project invoices for accuracy and completeness.
    2. Collaborate with Project Managers to prepare and manage monthly draws for submission to lenders and funding entities.
    3. Ensure compliance with general contractors and subcontractors.
  • Financial Reporting and Analysis:
    1. Prepare development and construction management fee invoices, project reports, and manage tasks related to accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and banking.
    2. Provide necessary data for loan closings.
    3. Prepare monthly financial statements, support schedules, and other financial reports accurately and timely.
    4. Prepare draw reconciliation reports for assigned projects and journal entries to accurately account for project costs.
  • Accounts and Cash Management:
    1. Manage accounts receivable and accounts payable, including check runs and resolving related issues.
    2. Prepare monthly bank reconciliations and maintain accurate cash balances for all project bank accounts.
    3. Anticipate and project cash flow needs for individual projects.
  • Year-End and Special Reporting:
    1. Assist in the preparation of year-end tax reporting and annual audits as necessary.
    2. Manage 1099 processing at year-end.
    3. Perform additional accounting tasks assigned by the Development Accounting Manager.
  • Communication and Support:
    1. Liaise with other departments, lenders, construction consultants, and vendors to resolve project-related matters.
    2. Provide support, guidance, and training to the project management team and other Development Accounting team members.
Requirements:
  • Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in accounting required
  • Experience: 4+ years of project accounting experience, preferably in development or construction accounting.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office; familiarity with various accounting and finance concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Key Traits:

    • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
    • Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work independently under minimal supervision.
