Job Summary:

The Child Life Specialist I is a vital member of the pediatric care team at Christus Health, dedicated to providing exceptional support to children and families during their healthcare journey. This role requires a deep understanding of child development, therapeutic play, and family-centered care. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, empathy, and a passion for making a positive impact on the lives of children and their families.

Key Responsibilities:

Assess the needs of children and families, identifying opportunities for child life intervention and support.
Develop and implement therapeutic play activities and interventions to promote child development and well-being.
Collaborate with healthcare teams to provide family-centered care and support.
Document observations, interventions, and outcomes to inform practice and improve care.
Participate in departmental and hospital-wide initiatives to promote excellence in pediatric care.

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Child Life or a related field.
Completion of a 600-hour child life internship under the supervision of a Certified Child Life Specialist.
Bilingual – English/Spanish is preferred.
Previous experience working with children and therapeutic use of play materials/activities is required.
Must obtain and maintain Child Life Certification within 1 year of hire.

Work Schedule:

Varies, with a focus on providing flexible and responsive support to children and families.
